Harlem Globetrotters Play Game on Ice

The Harlem Globetrotters have played on the roof of the Spectrum in Philadelphia, on an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf, at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium in front of 75,000 fans, on beaches, on the floor of dusty bullrings, at the bottom of empty swimming pools, and at the Vatican in Rome.
But to play a basketball game on ice? That takes the cake.
If they can perform their iconic moves in what can only be considered as a hockey rink, just imagine what they'll do at US Airways Center on Feb. 9, 2013.
On Jan. 7, using ice cleats and hockey helmets, the Globetrotters proved victorious over the Global Select with the help of Detroit Red Wings Alumnus Kevin Miller. And despite the slippery surface, the Globetrotters showed their iconic flair with “slick” dribbling and high flying dunks.

“We played this game today to celebrate all sports on ice,” said Harlem Globetrotters star Handles Franklin. “We are so happy the NHL is back. But unfortunately, they didn't get back in time for the Winter Classic. So the Harlem Globetrotters gave their own rendition in Michigan during our North American tour. And we brought out our secret weapon Kevin Miller, a former Red Wings player.”
Perhaps more significantly, their recent game on ice occurred on the Globetrotters’ most historic anniversary – celebrating the team’s first ever road game in Hinckley, Ill. on Jan. 7, 1927.
Since that time, the team has won over 24,000 games and lost only 345.
